Numerical Analysis of Double and Triple Pipe Heat Exchanger

The main motive of the study is to compare and design a heat exchanger with the help of thermo- fluid basic design system. With this idea, a triple concentric tube heat exchanger is proposed here. The triple concentric pipes heat exchanger is an improved version of double pipe heat exchanger. The study involves the sizing of the heat exchanger where in two cold water stream flows through the central tube and outer annulus space at same mass flow rates and same inlet temperatures in co-current direction while hot fluid flows through inner annular space in counter-current direction. This study will propose a basic procedure for calculating overall heat transfer rate of double pipe and tipple pipe exchanger. Heat transfer rate of double pipe heat exchanger will be compared with the value of heat transfer rate of the triple pipe. From the comparison value, an idea will be made about the efficiency rate of these heat exchangers. Finally, simulation will be performed in Ansys Fluent to compare the flow and heat transfer characteristics of the heat exchangers.
