Automatic Breaking System

A low cost automatic braking system has been designed and fabricated in this study. An emergency braking system has also been developed in case of the failure of the regular braking system. The system has been fabricated using Arduino as the microcontroller, ultrasonic sensor as the distance measuring device, solenoid valve as the direction control valve and pneumatic cylinder as the actuator of the braking system. On testing, the brake has been applied automatically when an obstruction comes in front of the range of the sensor. The largest braking distance was found to be 127 cm at 1 bar pressure which was within the sensor’s range. It is hoped that this study will help to provide safety by preventing accidents.
